You're Getting Warmer...

And I feel...like a crystal ball.
Hat by Stephen Jones, Russian Vogue, 2008.

My jingle bells have jangled their last jolt, and now it's January.

This morning we woke up to a stunning pink sunrise, melting its way across the scudding grey sky. Lightening looked out the window and said, "Is it gonna be like that all day, Mama?"

Not really. Not outside, at least--but here at Speed Chic you can count on the strength of a hot cup of coffee to chase those icicles off your eyebrows! I'm on cup #3, and things are just beginning to get toasty...

For starters, I finally found the perfect winter coats for Thunder and Lightening:

Northface, baby.
"Perito" and "Moondoggy" reversible down jackets
(on sale right now at Nordstrom.com)
My guys hate being restricted by their gear, and these jackets are lightweight but warm--they don't ride up in the back and have longer sleeve lengths with little elastic bands at the wrist to keep the snow from creeping in. I realized the hoods are a necessity (no more hats to lose!) and they add that extra dose of protection from the relentless, sea-salted wind whipping around the bus stop.

As for me, I have a theory that perusing swimwear in the wintertime is the perfect antidote to seasonal mood disorder...

Forget about actually trying them on yet (back to Barre Method, anyone?), but simply scoping out the prettiest suits and organizing my dream for summer takes me away from the unwelcome play date Frosty has foisted upon us.

Let's start with the letter Z, for a change, and a bit of zig-zag zeitgeist (cue sound of crashing waves now!)
Gettin' ziggy with it, clockwise from left: Russian Vogue, May 2011; Undrest @ polyvore.com; Exhilaration shorts @ target.com; Missoni, the original zig-zagger.

Gotta have something to look forward to during these stuck-indoors days, no?

As Thunder recently shouted to Lightening over the din of their electric toothbrushes,

"Happy almost-Valentine's Day!"

Indeed.
xoxo

  1. That suit made me think of giant rick-rack... is there such a thing (GIANT rick-rack, even in Russia? :-) Love your blog!

    1. Welp, you can get giant rick-rack in Oklahoma (Hobby Lobby!) but I don't know about Russia--may be a little fashion forward for that area :) Thank you for reading Speed Chic!!

  2. I love the swimsuit from Russian Vogue. I read online today that bikinis are out and one pieces in (sales are up 20%). What do you think?

And yes, the hoods are necessary for young boys. If it wasn't for hoods my boys would have lost their ears to frostbite ten years ago.

    1. I am into a sporty (not string) two-piece for summer--it all depends upon body type, I suppose--I never like the way a one piece makes my torso look like a teletubby. Maybe it's not the one piece doing that, however, maybe it's those darn McRibs. Yikes!
