New Shoes Cure the Blues Giveaway!

Hands off, witch.

Do you remember the first pair of shoes you ever picked out yourself?

I do. They were just like ruby slippers, but hot pink. I was six or seven, and was awed by how truly beautiful my blinged-out booties were as they skipped down the sidewalk. No Hush Puppies for this Oklahoma girl, thank you very much. Sparkle all the way.

The bliss I get from a new pair of shoes may be fleeting, but it's dependable. When I was seven a host of challenges were happening in my family (divorce, cancer, alcoholism--we aren't dull people!) but I will never forget the happy feeling I got from that simple purchase (thanks, Ma!).

In the spirit of spreading some luhve, I invite you to win a new pair of shoes!

Check back here within the week--One winner will receive her choice from either the "Sofia", "Crepe", or "Calais" collection from Dansko (go to www.dansko.com to pick your fave color/style)!

"Sofia"
"Calais"
"Crepe"

Simply "Like" Speed Chic on Facebook (if you haven't already) and post a comment below with your favorite pair of shoes memory...

Have shoes, will travel.

Finally, a special Thank you to Dansko for hosting today's giveaway, and for sending Speed Chic a pair to try! I tested the "Chrissy" Mary Jane in Black Napa leather--and found them ideal for that in-between seasons (after flip flops, before Ugg boots) comfy-yet-cute shoe. The Chrissy has a soft cushioned footbed, rounded toe and cute ballet slipper strap detail.

I wore these last night with skinny jeans and a cardigan to our high school's football game--
 Go Wreckers!

  1. Oh my! Shoes! Now you're talking MY lauguage. Nothing like the feeling of a new pair of shoes, except when you have to go buy an outfit to match the shoes! I want them all!

    1. "Have" to or "get" to? I believe shopping is a full contact sport, and one should train for it as much as possible!

  3. The first pair of shoes I remember were black paten leather tap shoes when I was five. It was picture day for my dance class. I was the Sugar Plum Fairy and the costume bags got mixed up. So I had the glittery warm up suit and tap shoes instead of the lavender tutu and pink toe shoes. I was so grateful for the shiny shoes and the sound they made: tap, tap tap! Good memories! Thanks for this! Your Chrissy shoes kinda look like them. Did did you have pompoms last night?!! :) sounds funs!

  4. My first pair of fav shoes were my clear plastic Barbie wedges. They were my first pair of heals looooong before my mom would let me wear real heals. My next fav pair were a pair of my moms heals that I would secretly play dress up with. They had a clear plexiglass heal and clear plastic across the top of the foot. They were Cinderella's slipper as far as I was concerned. I guess I had something for clear shoes.

    1. I think those might be coming back, Stephanie ;) Cute story, love it (Aren't you kinda glad you have boys, so you don't have to explain to them why they can't wear clear pumps to the grocery store??)

  6. My first shoe memory.....I believe it was my hot pink jelly sandals. I wore those babies out. My mom I think threw them away without my approval. I remember my pinky toe breaking through, but like a die hard I was determined to wear them FOR---EVER!

I doubt Dansko makes a shoe to fit me, I have small elf feet :(

  7. So glad to have stumbled upon this fabulous blog!! I kinda got sad recollecting my first shoe purchase mainly because "I don't remember buying shoes." Whaaaaaaa :)) Thank God we can change because just yesterday, I, believe it or not, I, googled "fall fashion 2012" in search of a fabulous pair of new boots for my trip to NYC this Christmas!! And I must say the gray cowgirl Matisse boots I have from last year ain't too shabby!! I would wear any pair of shoes you recommend "Speed Chic" and well "Free" would make them all the better!
