Ask an Expert

When talking to myself  no longer does the trick...

Lately I have been out and about running around town with my two hours of freedom during what I call "Pre-School Paradise" time. Forget about reading up on current events, here's what I learned from the locals on my assorted escapes cultural outings!

...

SPEED CHIC: Should I buy a pair of colored skinny jeans now, or has the trend faded like JLo's old tan lines?
One for him and him and him.
PERSONAL SHOPPER AT PREPPY BOUTIQUE (glancing around at shelves bursting with cropped teal corduroys and cashmere V-necks): It's over. Save your money for a nice pair of dark denim.

RESULT: I put my credit card on a diet and walked out without a shopping bag in tow.

...

SPEED CHIC: What is a light but substantial breakfast to eat before a morning workout at the gym?
Num Num.

CUTE KICKBOXING INSTRUCTOR WITH ABS, DELTS, AND QUADS OF STEEL (eyeing my peaked post-class complexion): A small bowl of oatmeal with chopped pecans and a dollop of Greek yogurt--you need a little bit of fat, protein and carbs to have sustained energy in the morning.

RESULT: A better breakfast means a less cranky mommy at pick-up and killer kicks in the boxing studio.

...

SPEED CHIC: What product should I use on my (slowly maturing) skin? Should I break out the big money for name brands or can I be a drugstore diva?

Before lasers, collagen and Restalyn, there was Pond's.

DEMURE FACIALIST: You need something with anti-oxidants to add to your moisturizing/sunblock mix. It doesn't matter if a product is $5 or $500--as long as it works for you and gives you the skin quality you are looking for--however, the costlier the product, usually the higher the concentration of the ingredients you're looking for.

RESULT: Trying a tester kit by Jurlique--chock full of anti-oxidants and smells like roses. Dewy!

Now how about you, dear reader? Do you have a question that's been niggling it's way into your beauty routine? Ask away, if I don't know--I'll ask an expert!

Out Darn Spot! Mama Pants of www.theadventuresofthefamilypants.com posted:
"I know exactly what you mean when you say "Pre-School Paradise" time lol
My question: What is the best and most natural way to diminish the darkness of sun spots?"

Jamie, facialist at Dream Spa in Westport, CT answered back:
Dot on Vitamin K twice a day, and you may see some lightening of age spots. Also, try Kojic Acid as an alternative to laser treatments.

(Speed Chic recommends you do your own research before mixing up batches of anything and putting it on your face. xoxo)
