Moms know everything. Best camps, sales on shoes, how to make sugar-free oatmeal breakfast bars, where to go get your eyelash extensions--we are a wealth of information and advice. Who wants to hear it? Certainly not my little guy on the way home from school ("I just want quiet, mom") I try to take his request to heart, and stop talking, for goodness sake.
Unsolicited advice is never pretty, but I do find making time to swap strategies with other moms delightful. It's like releasing pent up steam in an otherwise pressurized day. Recently, I stopped at Starbucks for a quick jolt of caffeine before a not-so-fun visit to the dentist. My plan was to crank it up a few notches then blitz around town, defying the other drivers to cut me off or the lines to be too long at the grocery store. Luckily, I ran into a pal who was on the same mission, and we both let ourselves take a rare break for some girl talk.
Having that bright spot in my day is a great reminder to shove the to-do list in my purse, take my brain off "TEXT" and stop checking the phone. Just being in the moment for a little while helps me enjoy my busy life even more. Trust me, it'll all still be there once the coffee cup is empty.

I love that you wanted to get all jacked up on caffeine before your dentist visit!
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you - anything that happens on the phone will still be there when you put it down for 30 minutes. But it's hard sometimes! thanks for visiting on my SITS day!
